So Pearson and I have gotten involved with a little more at church since the beginning of the year. We are pretty excited for what this year has in store for us.
One of the new ongoing things is we will be working with the Hispanic ministry by teaching English to Spanish speaking adults using the bible. There is a team of about 12 teachers who will be working individually with students on a weekly basis throughout the year. We are starting with Hispanic members of our congregation and eventually will open it up to the Spanish speaking population in the area. This a great opportunity to offer something that they want and need and to maybe plant some seeds in the process. We are very excited and maybe a little nervous (or at least I am)…
For those of you who don’t know, the church we attend (Fishinger & Kenny Church of Christ) participates in an area-wide, annual Bible Bowl competition for all ages. This year, the competition will be held on April 6th, and we have volunteered to compete on an adult team! Woohoo! This year, the questions come from the first 25 chapters of Genesis. They use the King James version of the Bible so we have been studying Genesis from the King James Bible and it is really cool and interesting because I haven’t studied much from this “old” version. Anyway, wish us luck!
To end this post, I will share how excited I am that we are having the Monthly Sing for Buckeyes for Christ at our apartment this month! Every month, the Buckeyes for Christ get together at someone’s house, have dinner and sing for hours. It is so fun and uplifting. On Thursday, we are having one at our apartment. I am excited because we have never had a big group over like this and it should be a lot of fun. I wonder what our partying neighbors will think when they hear a cappella singing coming from our apartment for hours on a Thursday night. 😛
