I know, I know. This is the post you have all been waiting for, right? Sorry it has taken me so long. I have been very busy since we got back from NYC with work, weddings, and a bridal shower. I still am not even close to caught up on sleep from everything that has been going on… Anywho, this post would be way too long all at once so I decided to split it up by day. That way you won’t be overwhelmed and I don’t feel like I need to try to make it shorter by leaving anything out.
Thursday:
So to start things off, Thursday (7/11) morning we left our apartment at 4:30 AM and headed to the airport for our 6 AM flight.

So our plane landed at Laguardia and we took a Metro Bus all the way around Manhattan (out of the way- but we wanted to see more sites than we would otherwise). We got off the bus at a subway station with our huge luggage and fought our way onto the subway for the rest of the trip to the hotel. A word to the wise…. if you go to NYC and stay on Times Square- or anywhere in Manhattan for that matter- and are not planning on taking a cab from the airport to the hotel, do NOT share a large suitcase. Especially if said suitcase was a high school graduation gift that you used going back and forth to college for 4 years and is falling apart. HUGE mistake. We should have taken individual small bags we could each carry easily. But we somehow made it to the Marriott New York Marquis, got checked in, and dropped that beast of a suitcase in the hotel room to stay for the weekend!
Next we did some exploring and ate lunch at McDonald’s. We were starving, having been up since 4 and only eaten a small breakfast!

That afternoon we went to the 9/11 memorial. This was really touching. They have made fountains in the footprints of the twin towers. On the walls of the fountains are the names of all the people killed in the 9/11 attacks. After the towers fell, they found one tree stump still alive in the rubble so they nursed it back to health and it stands between the two fountains today known as the survivor tree. People leave notes and ribbons on it.

After the 9/11 memorial, we went to Wall Street and saw the New York Stock Exchange. It was interesting to me to see business men and women coming and going out of this building like it was just a normal office building, but the building was behind bars and caution tape with tons of tourists across the street taking pictures… of a building. But I learned though the weekend there, that is what you do in NYC; take pictures of buildings.
That evening we had dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company! We told the waiter we were celebrating our anniversary and he made us stand up in front of everyone and kiss while they sang to us.

That night we went to the top of the empire state building. It was breathtaking. I have been up there before so I wanted to go at night this time just to have a little different experience. Amazing. My favorite part.
