On July 21st, Pearson was in a car accident. It wasn’t terrible. He was going about 45 and t-boned someone who pulled out in front of him. I am very thankful it wasn’t worse! But it was sort of a pain to deal with.
First of all, the man Pearson hit spoke very little English, so that made the whole process a little more difficult. The guy wanted to see how much the damage was on our car before he filed an insurance claim thinking he might be able to pay for it out of pocket and his insurance wouldn’t go up. I don’t really blame him, but it was obviously going to be a lot of money (spoiler alert: our car was totaled).
So Pearson drove the damaged car up to a body shop the next day to get an estimate and sure enough, the dude couldn’t pay for it so he filed a claim. So Pearson had to then take the car to another shop that Progressive (the other guy’s insurance) works with. They gave him a rental car and told him they’d be in touch within 24 hours… A week later we got a phone call saying it was totaled. Great.
It wasn’t a whole lot of damage (on the outside) but it was pretty old so it didn’t take much to total it. |
So we cleaned out the car and picked up a check from Progressive. Then we started looking at compact SUV’s online. We knew when we eventually replaced a car we wanted an SUV. The problem was, we were hoping to replace the ’95 Corolla before the ’01 Corolla and we were hoping to save up a little more money before we took the plunge. But, what can you do? Anyway, we discovered the Nissan Rogue and I fell in love! Well, you know, not really in love but we all use that word when we shouldn’t anyway.
So last Tuesday, 2 weeks after the accident, we went to Byers Crysler, Dodge, Jeep and bought our 2010 Nissan Rogue! I tell you, shopping online first is the way to go. And that’s what the guy at the dealership said too. We picked out the perfect car with the mileage we wanted for the price we wanted with the bells and whistles we wanted from the comfort of our couch. Then we just had to go pick it up and exchange some money. Y’all this car is so great! There is a ton of leg room for a compact SUV. It has Bluetooth connection, leather seats, a sunroof, a Bose stereo, AWD, the works! And we got a great deal!
Pip approves! |
The other night Pearson asked me what my favorite thing was about the car and I said either the sunroof or the stereo. His favorite was being higher off the ground then in a sedan but he knows the AWD will be his favorite when it snows and the roads get icy.
Anyway, all this to say, sometimes life doesn’t go the way we want, but it never lasts for long. And sometimes, like in this case, you get a fun little reward for your troubles!
Have you recently bought a car? Did you shop online? What’s your favorite part of the new car?
