There seems to be a theme going with the people I am most inspired by. Most of them are famous people who are not ashamed of their faith. I’ve talked about the Robertsons (on a couple occasions) and Candace Cameron Bure among others. I think the reason I’m so drawn to and impressed by these people is that I sometimes find myself not wanting people to really know how I feel about issues and I don’t share my own “unpopular” convictions and beliefs. But these people do and they do it on a much larger scale than I could ever imagine. Practically the whole world knows who some of these people are.
Today is no exception. Today I want to talk about the Duggars. It’s no secret around these parts that I am addicted to 19 Kids and Counting. I’ve been watching through the whole series on Netflix and am obsessed with that amazing family!

Now I am not saying I agree with everything they do or say (like, don’t you think for a second I’m gonna have 19 kids), but I completely admire their willingness to let the world see how they live their lives. They are different. They stand out like a sore thumb in our society today, but they don’t care. They want to show others Jesus’ love through their show anyway, no mater what sort of persecution and disapproval they will face.
Another aspect of all of this though is they are genuinely loving people. They do not judge others who don’t act the same way they do. They are honestly just as excited when their friends have great news like expecting a child as when it happens in their own family. They give what they can. They take time out of their lives to talk to fans and answer questions. They have written books to help families get out of debt, to help raise obedient children and to save money using their mentality to “buy used and save the difference.” And the family will be the first to tell you that their lifestyle is not for everyone. They make decisions because they believe they are the best for their family but they are well aware that other families have other needs and not everyone can take care of 19 children.

Speaking of the Duggars’ interactions with fans, lets talk about the platforms that they have been given to share their Faith and lead by example. I’m sure you know they have a reality TV show on TLC, 19 Kids and Counting but other than that, they have written several books, as I mentioned, they are always being interviewed for magazines, and they even travel around speaking at churches and schools. Why do they get to do this? Because people like them and are interested. Granted, some of these “fans” probably only want to hear what they have to say so they can lash out and bash these wonderful Christian people. But I think more so that Americans crave this. We want inspirational families to be in the lime lite that we can look up to. We want wholesome shows on TV to watch with our children. We want to see, through them, that it’s OK to stand up for our believes. The Duggars are making an impact and it’s working!
Do you watch 19 Kids and Counting? What do you think of the Duggars?
