This has been a tough month. If you’re not aware, a close family friend of mine was killed in a car accident at the beginning of the month. He was a 21 year old college student on his way to do mission work for the Lord.
Since the accident, I’ve done a lot of thinking. I’ve been thinking about my own life and my priorities because after streaming all of Nicholas’ memorial services, it became obvious that his priorities were in the right place at 21 years old. But I’ve also been thinking about the people who are important to me. My husband, my family, my friends. Every soul that has touched my life is so important to me and I take their existence for granted every day.
Basically, the suddenness and devastation of Nicholas’ death has made me realize that we aren’t promised tomorrow. And we aren’t promised that our loved ones will live to tomorrow either. So this month, and every month, I am so thankful for the people in my life. All of them. I hope that I can stop taking them for granted.
I’m going to be present with people when I’m present with people. There will be no more checking my phone during meals or when I’m talking with someone. I will try not to have to-do lists and other things running through my head when I’m listening to others. I will not hold grudges anymore and I will tell and show the people around me that I love and appreciate them.
I am so thankful for everyone God has placed in my life and I hope you all know that!
