Since we’ve been married, Pearson and I have spent almost every Halloween at home. And you know what, I don’t hate it. Sure there are plenty of other Halloween festivities all throughout October. But it’s kinda fun to spend the actual day at home. Just the two of us!

5 Ways to Enjoy a Low-Key Halloween at Home. Don't have anywhere to go on Halloween? That's fine! You can still enjoy the holiday by celebrating together at home with these 5 great ideas!

So here are some fun ways to enjoy a low-key Halloween at home.

ONE || Have a movie marathon

They can be scary movies (a great excuse to cuddle up with your honey – here’s a great list) or not-so-scary Halloween classics like the ones in this list. Pop the popcorn, fire up Netflix (or Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO, Disney+ or whatever streaming service you choose) and veg out on the couch for an entire evening.

TWO || Pass out candy to trick-or-treaters

Unfortunately, we don’t get trick-or-treaters at our apartment complex, but if trick-or-treaters come to your house on Halloween, enjoy it! Passing out candy was always one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing all the costumes and the kids are such cuties! (Or pass these out instead of candy and be the hottest house on the block!)

THREE || Have a costume contest

…With stuff you have at lying around at home. The rules are up to you. Maybe the two of you can only use each other’s clothes? Or your costumes have to be made completely of non-clothing items? Think shower curtain. And maybe you take pictures and turn to social media for the judging. Loser does dishes for a week!

FOUR || Carve pumpkins

There’s just something about carving pumpkins that screams Halloween, am I right? I remember carving pumpkins with my brother and dad growing up. It was always my favorite part. And hey! You could make this a contest too. (Use my favorite EASY pumpkin carving stencil book)

FIVE || Go camping in your living room

This is something Pearson and I have done on several occasions. We build a fort in the living room, blow up our air mattress, and spend the night camping and watching TV. We’ve never done it on Halloween but what a perfect excuse!

So what are you planning to do for Halloween? Thanks for reading!

    1. I can’t wait to have a house and trick-or-treaters one day! I love handing out candy for trunk-or-treat but since we live in an apartment we don’t get trick-or-treaters at home.

  1. Love these ideas! I love watching Halloween movies on Halloween since I’m not much of a party goer!

  2. The one thing I miss since my son has been trick or treating is handing out candy to other kids. I leave a big witch’s cauldron outside my door now but I miss seeing the excited kiddos at the door.

  3. These are really cute ideas! We usually like to go out on Halloween but last year the weather was not great so we did stay home and hand out candy. 🙂 I love the idea of a movie marathon!!

  4. Camping in the living room for the win! Rofl. These are very cute ideas to stay in and spend time together as well as save money. (Always a perk.)

I never get any trick – or – treat’rs simply because my house is on a busy street and I don’t think parents want to come all this way off the subdivision. Sigh.

And my husband is working the night shift this Halloween, but when he is off we will be doing a Halloween movie list – complete with my favorite – Hocus Pocus! HAHA!

  5. I am going to enjoy watching the annual Halloween party in downtown Nagoya on the TV. I am not the one to join in these kind of street parties but like to see who turns up.
