Checking in with Couple Checkup for National Marriage Week {GIVEAWAY}

This post is sponsored by Couple Checkup. I received the Couple Checkup Assessment at no cost in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Did you know this week is National Marriage Week?

That’s right! The week leading up to Valentine’s Day, February 7th through the 14th, is National Marriage Week! I don’t know about you, but I love any excuse to shower my husband with love or to celebrate our marriage so you better believe we’ll be celebrating all week!

Also, as you know, I am a firm believer in the necessity of always working on your marriage. I mean, after all, the goal of my blog is to help others continue to build a marriage that will endure whatever comes their way. In a world that says divorce is inevitable, I really believe that it’s possible to have a marriage that stands the test of time. But it takes some work. So…

One way we’ve celebrated National Marriage Week is by working on our marriage and connecting better as a couple through the Couple Checkup Assessment

Couple Checkup is a research based assessment used by clergy and counselors and powered by PREPARE/ENRICH. The assessment customizes to couples in all stages of their relationship, for dating, engaged, or married.

Couple Checkup is based on over 25 years of research with the PREPARE/ENRICH program and has three goals in mind: to celebrate your relationship strengths, to identify issues you disagree on and need to resolve, and to encourage you and your partner to talk about your relationship.

Y’all, this assessment was seriously a great way for us to connect. I learned so much about Pearson and about our relationship. We also learned how each of us feel about the areas that were assessed and there were even a couple areas where one of us thought we were doing well and the other didn’t!

To take the assessment, each partner takes their own portion of the assessment on their own. It should take about 30 minutes and they recommend taking it on a neutral day with nothing really extreme happening – ex. just got engaged or just had a huge fight – because high emotions skew answers.

Pearson and I each did our portion at the same time but in different rooms on different computers. Once we were both finished, we downloaded the results and discussion guide. I went back into the living room and sat down beside him to begin discussing.

You certainly don’t have to do it this way though. You can each take the assessment whenever you have time and discuss later. The results are available for 90 days after the account is created, so once you create your account, you have 3 months to each take the assessment and download or print off the results and discussion guide.

The report showing our results was 20 pages long the discussion guide was 35. No wonder working through it took all evening and it counted as our date for that week! Also, we plan to go back over the discussion guide more thoroughly throughout this National Marriage Week, But don’t let the length dissuade you! The results document really wasn’t that hard to get through because we were intrigued and kept wanting to know more. And I am very thankful for how thorough the whole process is.

At the beginning, Pearson wasn’t too excited to take the test, but after we talked about it, he said he was glad we did it. I think the assessment opened his eyes to a lot of things. He’s gone every day, all day and I’m not the best at expressing concerns so I think he was surprised at some of my responses and some of the places we don’t connect well.

I don’t know that I was really that surprised at most of our results, but it was definitely humbling and helpful to see it all out on paper (or the computer screen, as it were). Taking the assessment also helped me to express the why behind some of the things I feel that were now out in the open!

Of course, the areas where we connect well weren’t really a surprise, like Spiritual Beliefs, Family & Friends.

ANY relationship can absolutely benefit from Couple Checkup. I don’t care if you always seem to be down each other’s throats or if everything seems perfect right now. I don’t care if you’re a newlywed still in the honeymoon phase or if you’ve been married more than 50 years! I don’t care if you’re not even married yet! You can always reconnect and work on your relationship. And Couple Checkup is a wonderful resource to do so!

In fact, if you think your marriage is going smoothly and you don’t need to work on anything, that probably means things are getting glossed over and you would probably be very surprised at your results. So why don’t you take advantage of the National Marriage Week sale! Couple Checkup is discounted from $35 to $19.95 from February 7th through the 14th so be sure to snatch it up!

ALSO I’m giving one away! Enter the rafflecopter below for you chance to win a voucher code to take the assessment for free. The giveaway ends Friday and I’ll let the winner know by email on Saturday so that if you didn’t win, you still have time to purchase with the discount.
